Plumbing Engineering

Domestic water, sanitary and venting, grease interceptor and backflow prevention design for commercial and residential projects in Nova Scotia.

What's in scope

  • Fixture counts for the occupancy, including universal washrooms.

  • Domestic cold and hot water, water service and water heater sizing.

  • Sanitary drainage and venting to the National Plumbing Code of Canada.

  • Grease interceptor sizing and location for food service.

  • Backflow prevention to suit the water utility's cross-connection rules.

  • Floor drains, trap primers and equipment connections.

  • Form 9 commitment certificate and final field review.

Working with what's already there

In an existing building, the expensive part is often the concrete. We look at where the drains run before laying out the fixtures, and route new lines to avoid cutting the slab wherever we can. At Doris Nail Lounge in Halifax, that kept the opening fast and on budget.

Grease interceptors that can be serviced

An interceptor that's hard to reach doesn't get pumped. We size it to the sinks and dish machines it serves, and place it where the pump truck and your staff can reach it. Recent examples: Jessy's Pizza, Booza Emessa Ice Cream and Nayya's Pizza & Grill.

How many washrooms do you need?

The building code sets the minimum number of toilets and sinks from the occupant load and the type of business. A change of use can raise that number. We work it out early so the floor plan has room, and design washrooms to CSA B651 where barrier-free access is required.
