Barrier-free design for commercial projects

Most fit-ups and occupancy changes bring barrier-free requirements with them. We sort out which apply at the start, and design them to CSA B651 and Nova Scotia's requirements.

What We Design

On the same drawings as your plumbing and electrical — so fixture heights and controls are right from the start, not fixed on site.

When barrier-free requirements apply

New buildings, additions, and many renovations and changes of use must meet the barrier-free requirements of the Nova Scotia Building Code, which reference CSA B651. How much of an existing space has to be upgraded depends on the scope of the work. We review your plans against the code before you commit and tell you exactly what's triggered.

Why it belongs on the MEP drawings

Barrier-free problems usually show up on site: a sink set too high, a grab bar with nothing to fasten to, a door operator with no power. Because we also design the plumbing and electrical, fixture heights, grab bar locations and door operator power are coordinated on one set.
